Also help fund breast cancer walks and provided preventive health care screening in local rural communities. -Piper High school (in Florida) experience: was treasurer for math club, vice-president of science club which I help establish for first time in my high school, member of National Honor Society. A little about me: I was born in India and moved to United States in 1993. English was not my native language so I struggled from elementary school to high school. It was not until high school that I started to take my education seriously. I eventually made my way into college and attended University of Florida where I did my undergraduate degree in biochemistry and minored in classical studies. My initial goal entering undergraduate was to become a teacher because of the struggles I went through made me realize teaching was a natural gift I had to offer others. In undergraduate, I tutored organic chemistry, chemistry, and biology as a teaching assistant. I also worked in microbiology lab part-time and not until my own health condition worsened did I realize medicine was something I wanted to pursue. So I took one year off before medical school and studied and became a certified nursing assistant. I used this position to work in student healthcare center on university campus prior to entering medical school. After working as a nursing assistant, I went to a four year medical school and graduated with a medical degree. Now, I am a internal medicine resident working in New York for my residency. I have one more year left before becoming an attending physician. It is this journey from my humble beginning in India to not knowing a word of English and working through my challenges to become a successful physician that I realize my hidden talent is not only in caring for my patients but also teaching. Numerous times, students have praised me for teaching them medicine and I love having medical students around to teach. I have been given thank you cards to tremendous recognition by medical students. My ability to relate to the struggles of academia makes me an excellent tutor. I know everyone has a different learning style. Some are visual learns, others are more audio learners and still others learn best by writing or flashcards. It is my very own struggles through education and becoming someone successful that I realize I know how to relate best to those students who have difficulty understanding and mastering subjects. Therefore, I am willing to give back to the community by being a tutor. I would love to teach anatomy/physiology, biology, chemistry, basic math, and algebra. Even though I learned all the other subjects such as analytical chemistry and advanced biochemistry, it is also important to recognize your limitation as a teacher and that is why I am looking to tutor in the subjects above. I am mostly available during evening hours. If I do not know the subject matter, I will do my best to answer the question and look up the answer and get back to you. Also, please let me know what subject you are willing to tackle first so I can do my own homework ahead of time and provide you the best possible educational experience. =)
